Blood Pressure conditions during Pregnancy

  • Gestational High Blood Pressure – In most women, this condition develops after completing 140 days of pregnancy. The condition may not show any signs of internal damages. Passage of protein in urine is also not noticed. In few cases, this condition may lead to preeclampsia.
  • Chronic Blood Pressure – This condition, in general, starts developing during early pregnancy, or pre-pregnancy stage. Due to lack of symptoms, it may not be easy to determine the exact time of its occurrence.
  • Superimposed Preeclampsia and chronic Blood Pressure – Women may develop this condition during pre-pregnancy, if suffering from recurring Blood pressure. In few cases, it may tend to get severe along with passage of protein in urine. It may also give rise to other severe complications.
  • Preeclampsia – The condition develops during post pregnancy, once completed 140 days of pregnancy. It may lead to damage of internal organs – brain, blood, liver or even kidneys. If not treated on time, may lead to severe condition of eclampsia.

Complications due to High Blood Pressure during Pregnancy

  • Abruption of Placenta – During this condition, the Placenta may increase in size and separate from the inner lining, resulting in excessive bleeding during child birth. The condition may also be life threatening, for baby and mother.
  • Damaging of internal organs – If not regulated, then high blood pressure can damage internal organs including heart, liver, kidneys and brain. In some cases, it may also result in death of the patient.
  • Retarded growth – In few cases, it has been noticed that this condition can also affect the growth of your child in the fetus.
  • Abnormal delivery – During high blood pressure, mother may give birth to the baby before completing the pregnancy stage of nine months. It may also give rise to other severe complications.
  • Cardiovascular problems – High blood pressure may damage your blood vessels during pregnancy, thus increasing the risk of developing heart problems. If suffering from Preeclampsia condition, during pregnancy, patients develop risk of cardiovascular problems in later stages.

It is important to regularly monitor blood pressure during pregnancy and document it. In some cases medications may be advisable, but only after consulting medical experts. No matter what medications you take, it is important that it should not have bad effect on the baby and mother.
