How To Mount A Power Strip In Basket- DIY

There is a right and wrong way to do things and when you are ready to complete a do it yourself mounting power strip project, there are a few things you need to know and be aware of.  You can make power strip mounting a lot more difficult than it has to be if you do not know what you’re doing.

Get the Proper Parts and Materials

You can’t do a lot without the proper materials.  The first thing you need to do is purchase the materials you need.  For this project, you will need a basket, a minimum of four mirror hooks or hangers if you prefer and one screw for each hanger you are using.  All of these items should cost less than $20.  As far as the basket is concerned, make sure the basket is large enough to fit all the things you need and still have a little space remaining. The basket needs to have an open feature so that wires can easily pass through easily.  It will be in your best interest to use a plastic basket.

Cut and Mold the Basket

The next thing you need to do is cut and mold the basket.  For some people, this is easier said than done.  If you chose the plastic basket as suggested, it shouldn’t be a challenging task.  When you are arranging the items in the basket, make sure the items fit without being stuffed in the basket.

Mount the Basket

When you are ready to mount the basket, make sure you place it somewhere it is out of the way of the other things in the room.  Many people choose to mount the basket under their desk for convenience purposes.  If you choose to mount the basket under your desk, make sure you mount it towards the back of the desk so it is out of the way but still reachable should you need to rearrange things.  The hangers should be placed between the basket wires so it will be difficult for it to fall out of place.

Place all Items in the Basket

Once you mount the basket, you can place all the items in the basket.  This will be a challenging task, so be ready!  Everything that will use this powerstrip will need to be unplugged and rewired through the basket.  It sounds like a piece of cake but when the basket is already mounted and you have to play Tetris to fit the items in the basket, it’s not so easy.  When you are putting the wires through the basket, make sure the plugs are secured so they will not be easily unplugged or damaged.

Enjoy Your New Creation!

Now that you have mastered mounting a power strip on your own, enjoy your creation!  You will be amazed at how much space you have when wires and cords are not hanging everywhere.  You will have ample leg room and a lot more open space than you did previously.  The ample space may take a little time to get used to, but you have created an awesome work space and you did everything on your own!
